Dylan M. Bates
Dylan has worked at the intersection of alternative dispute resolution and business law for nearly 15 years. He is currently the Civil Alternative Dispute Resolutions Program Officer at the Multi-Door Dispute Resolution Division with the D.C. Superior Court overseeing their civil actions branch mediation program with a roster of 50 mediators and four full-time staff dealing with any damages over $10,000 ranging from commercial business disputes to tax and medical malpractice. Prior to that he was the Community Programs Manager at NVMS Conflict Resolution Center overseeing programs and staff on the county and state court level dealing with civil mediation proceedings, community conflict training, juvenile criminal diversion and liaison for agency stakeholders. He has been a mediator since 2012 in which he has trained dozens of new mediators and personally mediated over 300 cases- many of which have involved seven figure disputes and six figure settlements. He is trained in restorative justice conferencing, coaching, large group facilitation, and high risk dialogues. He is an arbitrator for FINRA focusing on securities and investor relations. He holds a B.A. in Conflict Analysis & Resolution from George Mason University with a concentration in international affairs, is a VA Supreme Court-Certified General District Court Mediator and VA-Registered Private Investigator. He is completing his Juris Doctor at Mitchell Hamline’s School of Law with a specialty in Alternative Dispute Resolution and Business Law.

Other roles include volunteering with the D.C. Bar’s Small Business and Non-Profit Pro Bono Clinic and publishing an academic article regarding the domestic impacts on mediated settlements from the Singapore Convention on Mediation. In his free time he is the Volunteer Chief of the Baileys Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department with qualifications as an EMT, firefighter, engine driver/pump operator, and instructor in the fire service since 2017 with over 4,000 operational hours served.
